June 2, 2019, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia:The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) will open the ‘Landscapes of the Soul’ exhibition, featuring the work of renowned late Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, on June 5th to the Saudi public. Exhibited for the first time in the Middle East and exclusively at Ithra’s Great Hall until September, the exhibition is organized in partnership with Norway’s Munch Museum, Aker ASA holding company and design firm Snøhetta.

Forty art pieces of Munch’s work are organized and displayed across five pavilions within Ithra’s Great Hall, each covering a different topic: Melancholy, Love, Despair, Loneliness and Portraits of the Soul, featuring some of his seminal works including The Sick Child, Self-Portrait with Skeleton Arm, and a lithograph of The Scream.

‘Landscapes of the Soul’ will introduce Munch’s work and ideas to Ithra’s visitors by exploring the artist’s signature motifs, distinguishing him from his contemporary peers. Through these traditional genres of painting, Munch expressed his subjective experience of the world wherein, landscapes became a mirror of the inner self, through which Munch examined universal issues of the human soul.
